June's GOal Getter
Blessing in Disguise
It started over 4 years ago with pain and limited motion of my left shoulder. My husband sent me to see an orthopedic surgeon, who diagnosed my condition as frozen shoulder. I was surprised because I did not know what the cause was. I guessed it was a combination of weakness of the muscles and injuries I did not realize had occurred. The surgeon recommended physical therapy and warned me that it would not only be painful but that it would take a long time to heal or that I would have to undergo sedation to "unfreeze" the shoulder. I was not happy with what I would have to go through.
Along with physical therapy, I also wanted to join the right fitness club so that this experience could be prevented from happening again. During my hair appointment with Ken from Kenneth & Company, I asked him which fitness club I should join. Without hesitation, he recommended Momentum Fitness Club. I was so excited, that after leaving his salon, I went straight to Momentum to join. At that time I was 59 years old and had never joined a fitness club before. I had done some exercise in the past, but that had been 25 years ago for a few months. And now I knew that I needed to strengthen my bones and muscles.
I liked the club right away. The staff was friendly, helpful, and I felt comfortable with them. I met my Fitness Coach who conducted my initial assessment of the Go Program (now known as the Fitness Focus Orientation) and eventually became my personal trainer. She showed me the equipments and programs, and asked me what my fitness goals were. At that time, my goals were to heal my frozen shoulder, get better posture, and strengthen my bones and muscles.
My trainer really understood my needs and encouraged me to try a couple of classes. I hesitated to try them because I was afraid that I would not be able to keep up. Instead, I asked her to personal train me. Not until later did I join some of the classes. To my pleasant surprise, I really liked them!
I achieved my goals not long after I got started. My frozen shoulder is totally healed. I now have stronger, more defined muscles, less body fat, and more energy with better posture. Since feeling stronger, I have taken Carol's yoga and line dancing class, and this is where I met the Silver Sweethearts. I also have enjoyed classes with Christine Lawrence and Wendy. Now, I take Silver Swing, Body Vive, Yoga, and Body Flow. I am so thankful to all the instructors here at Momentum... they are great.
I always look forward to Mondays, when I can spend time with the Silver Sweethearts and from time to time, enjoy the Monday Munchies. When I am away, I always look forward to returning to Momentum to continue my exercises and see my friends.
Besides strength training, my trainer has introduced me to the Pilates Reformer, which is a big challenge, but I like it. My trainer has always paid meticulous attention to every detail of the exercises, and she motivates me to work my best. I consider my frozen shoulder as a blessing in disguise that made me join Momentum.
My husband is especially happy and proud with what I have achieved. My 4 grown children and my 8 grandchildren also benefit from my feeling good. I can easily keep up with their energy and can stay on my feet as long as they can!
Thank you to the Momentum team for your guidance!
