"ME" in MoMEntum
When I first arrived in town to begin work, I drove by Momentum and thought, "Hey, this one is close and convenient. Why not?" I expected to sign up for a gym that was sterile and impersonal-like all of the others I've belonged to in the past. I planned to crank out tiresome hours on a treadmill while trying to keep myself entertained with music. When I stepped into Momentum for the first time, however, I was in for quite a shock!
I found an environment that was quite the opposite of what I anticipated. Learning that Momentum was an all-female gym was extremely comforting. There are women here of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. I haven't yet felt self-conscious or clumsy. The staff is friendly and always willing to help out. I still consider myself a "newbie" in some of the classes and love that the instructors are patient and always remind you of the importance of form and technique.
The most encouraging thing (and the reason I keep coming back) is the supportive community that I encounter every time I walk into the gym. Despite a busy travel schedule and working here in town four days a week, I've managed to attend three to four classes per week since becoming a member in mid-October. I'm quite sure that this is the longest I've ever been a faithful “gym-go-er” in my life and I'm beginning to see some fabulous results!
I've learned that when life gets hectic, there's always a way to squeeze in some "me" time at Momentum-- you just have to dig for it. Thank goodness for the early morning classes! Never before have I been able to stick to a 5:30am workout schedule (this is coming from the girl that used to cling to the snooze button in the morning!). The group classes have been a huge help in staying motivated. I feel more accountable for my workouts when I participate in group exercise. It also helps to keep my entire day structured.
Finally, I've learned that there is much more to personal fitness than just cardio. While cardio is still a big part of my routine, Momentum has also helped me to see the importance of strength training (BodyPump is my favorite class!) and preventative exercise through Yoga, Mat Pilates and BodyFlow.
Thanks, Momentum staff for keeping me coming back!
